YOURS is re-energizing the Global Youth Network for Road Safety!

Since we opened the MINE section in early 2010, we have had hundreds of road safety activists from all sorts of background joining up. The representation is worldwide and members have had access to the the Global Youth Network, seeing what other road safety organizations are doing around the globe. Now, YOURS is offering new benefits to its members!

Earlier this year, YOURS Staff met and discussed a range of new opportunities, projects and campaigns. One of the key focuses lied in the Global Youth Network for Road Safety; the unique, one of its kind network that brings together youth activists and organizations dedicated to youth and road safety issues.

At the meeting, it was decided that YOURS is ready to re-energise and expand the network, which means; offering more services to members, offering benefits to members as well as tightening the criteria on joining the network. YOURS will offer members with a range of clear benefits that will be made available only to the YOURS network, some of these benefits include:

  • Increased Access to resources and YOURS materials
  • Increased Efficiency as a global voice road safety
  • Increased Visibility and Credibility

A list of the full benefits of joining the YOURS network can be found at the link below.

Additionally, YOURS will be tightening the joining criteria to ensure our network remains youth and road safety orientated and youth driven. This will offer a quality check on the information entered into the network and offer members access to high quality information about youth and road safety from around the world. Some of the new criteria includes;

  • Age: 15-30
  • Be either a youth-led Non-Governmental Organization/non-profit organization/social enterprise/charity/stand alone project
focussing on road safety with a primary/some focus on young people or an individual active/interested in road safety.
  • Agree to the commitments of being a Road Safety Role Model

A list of the full criteria on joining the network can be found at the link below.

“Cars 2” safety video reminds drivers to not drive distracted.

“Cars 2” safety video reminds drivers to not drive distracted.

The Department of Transportation, USA (DOT), Disney, and Pixar have teamed up to help fight distracted driving with a new public service announcement with Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and the colorful characters of “Cars 2.” YOURS is proud to feature the PSA here!

In advance of the June 24th release of the movie, the 30-second PSA is called, “Only the bad guys drive distracted.” With the help of the Cars characters, it advises viewers that “No calling, no texting. Nothing that can take away your focus.”

The ad will be available in more than a dozen countries with various translations and the DOT is working on increasing that coverage by partnering with the Make Roads Safe campaign for global road safety.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has worked with Disney before on various safety campaigns. The last time was in 2005 for the re-release of the Cinderella movie to help remind parents to fit their children snugly in a booster seat.

The Campaign follows suit of Sesame Workshop’s Road Safety PSAs that feature loveable character Grover who joined the Decade of Action for Road Safety to promote road safety messages with young people on the popular show, Sesame Street.

YOURS wholeheartedly commends the mergence of road safety messages with popular entertainment to convey road safety messages. You can view the PSA on this page. Look out for more of this type of promotion as an emblem of the Decade of Action’s efforts to promote road safety and reach its ten year goal of saving five million lives.

Concrete Dreams: A drama focusing on road safety by young people.

Concrete Dreams: A drama focusing on road safety by young people.

YOURS is proud to feature ‘Concrete Dreams’, a touching drama underpinned by a road safety message and shot by MMC – Making Messages Count with the support of London Borough of Hackney Council. Watch the video at YOURS now…

Concrete Dreams is the poignant story of Shanice and Charley, a couple of ordinary high school teenagers immersed in life and the people around them, set in Hackney, London. The story depicts the lifes of young people and their flippancy towards the road; taglined, ‘no one is invicible or unstoppable.’

The drama is shot in monochrome giving it a gritty, realistic appeal. Its clear as the story unfolds that youthful plans, dreams and aspirations can disappear if young people do not pay attention to the road; a message that counts.

The inspiring tale of the story permeates on and off the screen, the film was shot, directed, edited and produced by a group of young people aged 15-19 year olds illustrating the creative value young people can bring to road safety. It was shot in partnership with the London Borough of Hackney Road Safety Road Safety Team. YOURS is proud to promote this video here and commends the enthusiasm and commitment shown by these young people. YOURS hopes to see more projects like this one that Make Messages Count (MMC), especially the vital message of road safety with young people.

You can view the video on our page and leave feeback on the Vimeo Hosting Page. A big well done to the MMC Team and Hackney Council on this brilliant production!

Ducati And Sussex Road Safety Team Release ‘Stay A Hero, Stay Safe’ Film

Ducati And Sussex Road Safety Team Release ‘Stay A Hero, Stay Safe’ Film

With the aid of Ducati UK, the Sussex Safer Road Partnership has produced a creative and emotional film intended to help reduce the amount of motorcycle related accidents on UK roads and makers hope that its effective message of responsibility will reach around the world.

The short film called ‘Stay A Hero, Stay Safe’ features a Ducati 848 ridden by the father of a young boy who is waiting for him to return home. While waiting, the boy aspires to be just like his father by trying to recreate the excitement and pleasure of motorcycling with items found in his garage.

The aim of the heartwarming film is to promote the joy of motorcycling, while underlining the responsibility that riders have to themselves their families and the wider road using public.

To achieve this, the advert takes on a refreshingly positive style of communication and is effective because it conveys the inspirational role that motorcyclists must play for future generations.

Ducati was chosen because of their enthusiastic response to the positive safety message of the film and, as the Italian manufacturer is a recognised leader in creating inspirational motorcycles, the Sussex Safer Road Partnership considered it to be the perfect pairing. In the same way that the film intends to inspire safe riding now and in the future, Ducati are famous for building inspirational motorcycles.

Ken Seymour, Manager of the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, said:

“We at the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership are committed to reducing all types of collision on our road network and are raising the profile of motorcyclists as our data infers this is the time to start to remind riders of their responsibilities. ’Stay a Hero’ isn’t your usual shocking public service film. Instead we hope that it will connect with the motorcycle community and generate discussion that helps to protect people on our roads.”

The film was made by Alexander Commercials and is the second pairing of Writer/Director Daniel Cox and Producer Sarah Alexander and its dialogue-free story is hoped to increase its global reach and potential to deliver the important safety message of responsibility to the world’s motorcycling community.

The film can be viewed on this page and at:
