This month, YOURS puts te spotlight on the work of Omani delegates in the campaign, ‘Awladna: road safety for kids’. The campaign holds many resources and fact based evidence about the state of Omani road safety and some of their work can be found in this month’s spotlight feature…

Awladna’s mission is to spread awareness for protecting children from road and traffic accident dangers and to reduce the risks to which children are exposed due to being on the roads or playing close to the road.

The project is a three minutes awareness ad which is highly focused on the carelessness of some mothers which can lead to their child’s death. They shot all the scenes in three different locations in Muscat city in 10 days.

Young people were highly involved in this project since 80% of the crew is under thirties. The idea, planning, and execution all were done by young people who are under thirties supervised by the Campaign’s founder Ms. Amal Al Zadjali.

The campaign achieved its goal because the delegates believed in their own abilities and accepted the reality that sometimes, to make change happen people have to act quick. The group depended in themselves and thought of things they could do with a low budget which made everything clear for them from the beginning till the end. For the group, it was a great experience for where they learnt that nothing is impossible if there is a hardworking team with a creative idea.

The campaign set about thinking of a way to participate in Road Safety. It was a unique idea and the group brought it to life. Campaign founder Ms Amal Al Zadjali said, “We think that’s how young people should think and work for road safety, because if we wait for others help and support we will waste lots of time and enthusiasm”.
