Slow Down and Step Up: Empowering South Asian Youth for Road Safety

A YOUTH-LED TRAINING AND ACTION SERIES TO PROMOTE SAFE MOBILITY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACROSS SOUTH ASIA. 

Equiping young advocates in South Asia with foundational road safety knowledge and mobilise community action to contribute toward saving lives and reducing fatalities in the region.

WHAT IS SLOW DOWN AND STEP UP?

Slow Down and Step Up is a virtual training and youth action program led by young people from South Asia, implemented by YOURS – Youth for Road Safety and supported by UNICEF. It aims to equip young people (18–24 years old) with leadership tools, road safety knowledge, and advocacy skills to take meaningful action in their communities.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES

  • Three interactive virtual sessions led by youth trainers from across the region
  • Access to tools and guides to take local action on road safety
  • A chance to lead your own community activation and showcase your work
  • Official certificate of participation
  • Opportunities to join a global network of young changemakers through the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety

WHO CAN JOIN?

Young people aged 18–24 from the following countries are especially encouraged to join:

India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be between 18 and 24 years old (others up to 35 are also welcome to join).
  • Be interested in road safety, leadership, and social impact.
  • Have working knowledge of English (the training will be delivered in English using inclusive and visual language).

TAKE ACTION LOCALLY

After completing the workshops, you’ll receive a complete guide to carry out a community activation in your local area. You will:

  • Identify dangerous spots in your city
  • Share your findings through photos, maps or visuals
  • Contribute to a regional campaign showing youth-driven action

Outstanding actions will be featured on YOURS and other appropriate platforms.

  • EFriday, September 26: Training Session 2 – Youth Leadership and Project Management for Change
  • EFriday, October 10: Training Session 3 – Advocacy for 30 km/h Streets
